| We establish Information Technology Unit of Civil Engineering to spearhead the IT services in FKA. Starting as a unit with few technical staff 5 years ago, ITUCE is expanding by forming several new sections called Services Unit, Academics Unit, Laboratory Unit and Resources Centre Units. ITUCE is headed by Information Technology Manager. ITUCE now is the only it unit in UTM that served as a department offering IT subjects, laboratory experimentation and modeling for postgraduate programmes. We are focusing on the knowledge based type of information. Automating the process to database format , such that raw data can be analyzed and interpreted for engineering purposes. | ||
IBS, Earthquake, Database management system and Vibration based damage detection are the major fields that have been explored. In 2009, ITUCE has been awarded a total of RM290,000.00 grant for research and innovation works. In publication, ITUCE staff have produced 6 international conference papers and 3 international journal papers. Moreover, ITUCE staff are also actively involved as reviewers for International journals. ITUCE staffs are also active in consultancy. In 2009 ITUCE is able to complete four projects worth RM65,000. One of the successful contributions to the faculty is establishing an online ISO9001 system. Apart from that, ITUCE also provides IT services for the faculty ranging from computer maintenance, website development to system development. Source: CLICK HERE | ||

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
GEORGE TOWN: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has developed what is believed to be the world’s first Android-based tele-radiology collaboration platform allowing doctors to download medical images while discussing it in real time. The ENDEAVOUR-Mobile software system allows images stored in the “ENDEAVOUR server” to be viewed clearly on Android-based smartphones, tablet devices and any personal computer. This is unlike a similar software system released on April 19 that requires high bandwidth and is only available to iPad users.USM School of Computer Sciences dean Prof Rosni Abdullah said the system allows medical professionals to quickly source for expert opinions any time and anywhere. She said tele-radiology, a branch of tele-medicine, is often costly and other mobile applications only allow users to access and view images on mobile devices minus the live chat feature.“ENDEAVOUR-Mobile software system enables users to access medical images such as CT, PET, MRI scans and X-rays; and mark, draw and measure specific areas on the images, while simultaneously speaking to each other on the phone.“We hope the software system will be used in government hospitals as we expect it to reduce medical costs while benefiting patients,” she told reporters here yesterday. The patent-pending ENDEAVOUR-Mobile was judged the national champion (E-Health category) at the 11th MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards last year.It was developed by USM under the RM1mil ENDEAVOUR (Extensible Medical Image Analysis, Visualisation and Annotation Platform) Project, which also covered the development of other inventions. The software can be used in emergency situations where specialists are not present or when a doctor needs to consult his colleague who is on holiday.Project leader Assoc Prof Dr Mandava Rajeswari said in the medical field, consultations were crucial and to fly specialists in would be costly and time consuming.

Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (MIIT), an institute under Universiti Kuala Lumpur marks another history on August 5, 2008 as it sealed an MoU with one of an internationally recognised institute in IT, Geneva Information Technology Institute (GITI), based in Switzerland.Recently awarded as Institusi Pendidikan MARA (IPMA) Terbaik 2008, MIIT has expanded its wings as the centre for both Malaysian and Swiss in pursuing their knowledge in IT. Programmes offered by MIIT include CCNA/P (networking), e-commerce council (e-commerce) and security. The programmes are expected to commence next March 2009 at UniKL City Campus. Thru this collaborative effort, MIIT promotes the concept of edu-tourism as the participants from Malaysia and Switzerland will have the opportunity to explore the culture of both countries during their academic years. This important partnership served as a gateway for MIIT to send their lecturers and students furthering their studies in Switzerland as well as to path a strategic linkage for ICT applications through UniKL’s technopreneur products at global arena since Geneva is the centre of many international organisations. THE FIRST 4G OUTLET LAUNCHED IN UTM

Yasmin demonstrates the use of 4G broadband to Dr Zaini after the launching of the YES Campus Store at Arked Meranti.
Skudai, March 11 – “YES Campus Store”, the first 4G outlet at an institution of higher learning in the country is launched at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia today.
The UTM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang said, the initiative to open the said outlet enables the UTM community to get the 4G mobile internet services at an affordable rate.
The package, Education Partner Program Campus Citizen Plan, facilitates the UTM community to use the 4G network which has been customised with a special package.
The Yes 4G mobile phone is also launched today exclusively for the UTM community.
The YES Campus Store was launched by Dr. Zaini. Also present was the Executive Director of YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL Comms), Yasmin Mahmood.
Although more than 80 percent of the student residential colleges have been provided with internet coverage through the installation of almost 1,000 wireless hot spots, the 4G broad band services will extend the students’ accessibility to the online learning materials and services.
The facilities enable more than 20 thousand students to utilise the advanced communication and information technology as part of their learning process. The initiative is in tandem with UTM teaching and learning policy which emphasizes the use of e-learning while focusing on the development of soft skills among students.
The expansion of the broad band and internet accessibility will give great impact to the students of UTM as it enables them to obtain the information required particularly in research and development speedily and promptly. Such facilities are most appropriate as many of the learning references and materials are made available through the internet.
In addition the technopreneur program will get the advantage of the services provided by YTL Comms through high speed internet.
